UK Retailer Tesco unveils new Android budget tablet called Hudl

Popular UK retailer Tesco has launched a new tablet running the Android operating system designed specifically to combat Amazon’s Kindle. The Tesco tablet is called the Hudl and features a seven-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 900. The tablet runs Android 4.2.2 and the first rumblings that the tablet was coming surfaced in August.

Integrated storage is 16 GB and storage can be expanded all the way to 48 GB using microSD memory cards. The processor under the hood is a quad-core 1.5 GHz unit and Tesco promises the tablet is good for nine hours of battery life with video playback. That playback time can vary depending on video format, volume, screen brightness, and other factors according to Tesco.

The tablet also features a micro-HDMI port for connecting to your big-screen TV and has integrated Bluetooth 4.0. GPS is also built-in in the tablet has dual band Wi-Fi. The tablet has access to all apps available via Google Play and will be sold in four different colors.

Those four available colors include black, blue, red, and purple. The tablet is available with Wi-Fi only with no 3G or 4G versions available. Tesco covers the screen with a scratch resistant material to help it stand up to use in the real world. The tablet will reportedly sell for under £100 and it will go on sale on September 30 in the UK. Tesco does called the Hudl “the first stage in our tablet offering” indicating more tablets are in the works. (SlashGear)
